Louise Deck Pay It Forward Challenge - Fight Poverty

Welcome to Louise's Pay It Forward Challenge dedicated for Marielle's Birthday!  This is a platform designed for passionate individuals that want to make their birthday about more than just a number. On a day when all of the attention is normally on them, heroes like Louise use their influence to raise money and awareness for some of the world's most desperate causes.

Louise has decided to dedicate this campaign to raise money and awareness to Fight Poverty. Explore this page to learn more about the charity that this campaign will help support. After you are done learning, we hope that you will support Louise's passion by making a donation and sharing the campaign on social media!

Louise's personal notes....

Today (05/29) is my niece's birthday - Marielle - she is 14 and a Leukemia Survivor. She's also one of the kindest, generous and compassionate young ladies I know. She doesn't need anything for her birthday, so I would like to "give" her this birthday challenge as a gift. Join with me in wishing Marielle a Happy Birthday and fight poverty along the way!

Happy Birthday, Marielle!

About The Charity

Money raised from this campaign will be used to benefit a charity called Evidence Action. Evidence Action helps fight poverty through two programs; Dispensers for Safe Water and The Deworm the World Initiative. We split all donations 50/50 between these two programs.

Dispensers for Safe Water  is a low-cost intervention that focuses on providing clean and safe water by installing chlorine dispensers near water sources. Once treated with a small amount of chlorine the water is safe for 2-3 days. Nearly 760,000 children under the age of five die from diarrhea each year. The cause of this is often unsafe drinking water, making unsafe water one of the leading causes of childhood mortality worldwide.

The Deworm the World Initiative helps to break the cycle of poverty by protecting school-aged children from contracting parasitic worms that would normally keep them from getting an education. Many people do not realize that worm infections are responsible for an estimated 200-524 million years of primary schooling. 600 million children at risk of contracting parasitic worms remain untreated.

For every $100 raised, this campaign will be able to provide and estimated 33 people with clean water for one year and 165 children with the appropriate deworm vaccines to help keep them in school.
